Haha, we wish. The Happijac mechanism itself was actually purchased from a company named ‘Happijack’ all we did was receive it and set it up in our van so that our mattress could sit on it.

How does a Bed Lift Work?

A bed lift works by placing a solid platform under your existing bed frame. When you are ready to go to bed, simply pull down on the metal bar at the top of the bed lift and raise it until it is flush with the floor of the van. 

You will then be able to climb onto the platform and slide yourself into bed. Once you’re in bed, you’ll have complete control over where you want to be located in relation to the headboard. 

To get out of bed, simply push the button again and gently lower the bed back down. Since there is no need for any tools, you don’t even have to bring anything with you. And since it’s completely portable, you can use it anywhere – day or night, rain or shine, wherever you happen to be parked.

One of the biggest benefits of using a bed lift like the HJL is that it allows you to easily access items stored underneath your bed. For example, if you have a refrigerator on wheels, you can store it right beneath your bed and still enjoy convenient access when needed.

How Thick was the Mattress We Used? 

The mattress we used was about six and a half inches deep. We could not find one thinner without having a custom mattress made. Sadly we aren’t that rich so we opted to buy a thin mattress from Ikea.

Second, you should take note of how much weight each person weighs. Because our bed lift weighed almost 30 pounds, we had trouble lifting it up and down the stairs. Also, if you have small children, they may struggle to climb into the bed. 

Third, if you are planning on storing other things under your bed, make sure to calculate how far away these items will be from the bed. The bed lift’s dimensions are limited to 15×15 inches. Therefore, if you plan on putting something large under your bed, you may need to rethink your arrangement. 

Finally, because the bed lift is heavy, it requires a strong back or sturdy arms to lift it up and down the steps.

As we mentioned before, the bed lift weighs around 30 pounds. So if you weigh over 300lbs, you might have difficulty lifting it up and down. But if you weigh less than 300lbs, you shouldn’t have difficulty lifting the bed lift.

We bought the bed lift without knowing how long the warranty period would last. Fortunately, we only had to pay for shipping charges. If you purchased the bed lift from Amazon, however, you will have to pay for the entire price of the product. This includes any extra fees such as delivery charges, etc.

We’ve been using the bed lift with both of our mattresses. One of the best things about the bed lift is that it works with almost any type of mattress. In fact, the bed lift has worked well with other types of foam mattresses.

We would absolutely use a Happijac bed lift again in our van. It makes traveling easier by allowing us to easily get our bed up and down the steps without having to carry anything. Plus, since we no longer have to worry about waking ourselves up in pain, we can sleep better.
