Let’s get started!

Cutting The Plywood

To begin, we’ll cut our plywood into two equal pieces. First, we’ll measure the width of our plywood. Using a tape measure, measure the length of the plywood.

Now divide the number you got in step 2 by 4 inches. That gives us the amount of cuts needed to split the plywood into two equal parts.

Here’s an example:

Measurement 25″ / 4″ 6.25″ Cuts

So we’ll need six cuts.

Next, we’ll mark the center of each piece of plywood. Use a pencil to draw a line across the middle of the plywood. Now, place a ruler along the drawn lines.

Next, take a chisel and carefully hit the edge of the plywood. Repeat until all six marks are gone.

After that, flip the plywood over onto a flat surface. Put a clamp underneath the back side of the plywood. Place another clamp under the front side of the plywood and lift it up.

This way, the plywood won’t move while you’re working on it.

Using a jigsaw, cut through the clamped area. Be careful not to cut through the marked lines.

Repeat steps 5 and 6 until you’ve finished cutting the plywood into two halves.

Sanding The Plywood

The next thing we’ll do is sand down the edges of our plywood. Start by taking a hand sander and sand the edges of the plywoods. Keep going until you reach the desired thickness.

We recommend starting with 220 grit sandpaper. Once you’ve reached the desired thickness, switch to 180 grit.

Continue doing this until you have no more sand paper left.

Once you’ve finished sanding, let the plywood dry for at least 24 hours.

Staining The Plywood

We’ll now stain the topside of our plywood. Take a small paint brush and dip it into white acrylic paint.

Use a clean cloth to wipe off any excess paint.

Then, take a rag and rub the paint around the entire surface of the plywood. Do this until you see the color change.

When you’re done, let the plywood sit for about 30 minutes. This will allow the paint to fully penetrate the wood.

Apply three coats of polyurethane sealer to protect the wood from moisture and stains. Let the first coat dry completely before applying the second one.

Apply the third coat after 48 hours.

Finishing The Plywood

Finally, we’ll apply a clear coat to give the plywood its final shine.

Take a clean rag and wipe down the top side of the plywood again. Then, use a clean rag to apply some clear polyurethane spray.

Wait for the finish to dry.
