One of our favorite places to go camping is always going to be Massachusetts. This area has a lot of coastal options, and this means that there are plenty of different and diverse options when it comes to camping.

If you are looking for a state which has a wide variety of different types of areas to go camping, Massachusetts is definitely an area which you should consider. So, no matter what you are looking for, you are going to find a spot which is right for you in Massachusetts.

Whether you are looking for a camping spot which has access to beaches, or you want to go camping deep in the forest with loads of different hikes close by, Massachusetts has you covered.

But, with all the choices in places to go camping in this state, you might be overwhelmed by the amount of choice available, because of this, we have narrowed this list down to just a few of our favorite choices for you to choose from.

So, if you want to go camping in Massachusetts, but you have no idea where you want to go exactly, then we have some of the best options available on this list!

Normandy Farms Campground

You can find the Normandy Farms Campground within Foxborough, and it is seen as one of the best and most popular areas to go camping if you are in Massachusetts.

This location is actually not too far away from Boston, so it is super easy to get to if you are coming from the city, especially if you are looking for a more relaxed getaway!

This campsite is also an amazing option with all the different amenities you can find here, and even different seasonal events which are available depending on what time of year you are visiting.

This means that no matter what age you are, there will be something to keep you entertained at Normandy Farms. For example, there is a dog park, a fitness center, a rec lodge, and even a course to play disc golf.

You also have access to a sports pitch area as well as a pool which is perfect for if you want to stay active while camping.

There are also camping spots here available for all different budgets, which is perfect if you want to try something different on a return visit. For example, they offer a standard classic cabin, as well as some pop ups, however there is even more than this, for example, yurts, and safari tents.

In peak season you can find the yurts are rented on a weekly basis, so if you want to access one, make sure you plan ahead!

Boston/Cape Cod KOA Holiday

You can find this camping spot located within Middleborough, and for reference this is not too far away from Plymouth. This again is one of the more popular camping spots you will find in Massachusetts, however this is for a good reason.

This is mainly accredited to the deluxe cabins which you can find in this campsite. These cabins are able to sleep up to 8 people, and there are multiple impressive amenities like access to a shower, linens, a bath, a kitchen, as well as TV with access to cable.

Outside the deluxe cabins there are even more great amenities which are available throughout the site, for example, the pavilion, the fun train, the Wi-Fi, a great general store. There is even a well stocked laundry facility and an outdoor cinema.

There are also sports spots where you have the option to play activities like volleyball or basketball.

Wompatuck State Park

We love this camping spot and it is even better that it is found within a state park, being inside Wompatuck State Park. This is one of the most well-known state parks in Massachusetts, and for reference it is in Hingham which is close to Cohasset and Scituate. 

We think this is a great option because compared to some other more luxury options, this area is incredibly affordable and makes it a perfect place to stay if you are on a budget. The park is also massive with plenty of different options when it comes to choosing places to set up your tent.

The park has 3500 available acres which includes more than 250 different camp sites available.

This spot also has some good amenities like biking, horseback riding, cross country skiing, boating, picnicking and snowmobiling, however, as you can tell, some of these are only available seasonally.

You can even find some more educational facilities here which are perfect if you are looking for some educational activities for younger ones while camping here.

Spacious Skies Minute Man Campground

You can find this lovely campsite within Littleton, and it is quite close to some of the other popular locations within Massachusetts. If you are looking for an authentic rustic style getaway when camping, this is going to be one of the best options.

In spite of this, there are still some amazing amenities available, like a heated pool, a rec hall, a bocce court, a dog run, a playground, a volleyball court, and this is not even all of it. So, if you like to stay entertained, this campsite will happily keep you entertained.

This spot has two different options when it comes to places to book, you could get one of the spacious cabins which come with either one or two rooms, or you could get an RV which is in their trailer park.

We loved staying in the cabins since the air conditioning makes them very comfortable and having heating, outlets, and dedicated areas to eat and sleep was appreciated.

Massasoit State Park

This spot, as you can tell from the name, is a state park as well as a camping ground. This state park can be found in Taunton and it is one of the best spots to stay if you are camping within Massachusetts.

It is a pretty large camping ground, and has a lot of woody areas with lots of cover, however, there is also a lake which makes it a nice varied option to stay in. 

This spot also has some great amenities available which are perfect to use if you are a guest at the camping ground. This includes the nature center, the comfort station, as well as a playground. This park also gives you access to some great hikes and nature trails so it is perfect if you love to explore.

You also get quite a lot of freedom when it comes to where you want to camp. For example, you could pitch your tent wherever you want in the campground. So, if you are a fan of more traditional style camping, then you will love this option!

Wells State Park

We also have another amazing state park option here with Wells State Park, which is found in Sturbridge. This spot is well known as it contains Walker Pond which is in itself a reason to visit this spot.

This is another state park which features more traditional camping options, and there is plenty of space for you to do this.

There are some more well-prepared spots available as well, for example spots for RVs or tents, which total with 55 spots over the park. There are even 4 yurts which are available, as well as a group site which sleeps up to 15 different people which we love as an option for a family getaway.

This state park also has plenty of different amenities available too, for example a well to get fresh drinking water, access to fishing, as well as a swimming pool. You also get access to the showers for free if you are camping in this spot as well.

Myles Standish State Forest

If you are looking for one of our favorite options for camping in a forest in Massachusetts, then Myles Standish is one of our favorite options.

This spot is in Carver, which is very easy to access if you are coming straight from Boston, so if you are looking for a city break then this is going to be one of your best options.

This state forest also gives you a massive amount of options when it comes to spots which are available, with 400 campsites included. You also have group spots which are even larger if you need them.

This camping ground also has 3 yurts as well which are perfect for a more unique experience.

This camping ground also has a good variety of amenities like showers and bathrooms, as well as an amazing variety of biking trails and hiking trails. There is also College Pond which is perfect for swimming or fishing in.
