Making sure your van is clean is one of the most important parts of living a healthy van life. However, it’s important not to neglect your own personal hygiene! There are many ways to stay clean and stay healthy while living your best van life. While it’s unlikely you’ll have access to a shower on a normal interval like you may in an average home, you can still get the similar, if not exactly the same, results from other means! Some of these options may just be secondary use items that don’t replace your current hygiene care products, but can certainly add to your arsenal of self-care and cleaning products! We’ll talk about and show you some of the best products for keeping you and your loved ones healthy, happy and clean!

#1 – No Rinse Bathing Wipes

Sometimes there just won’t be any showers nearby and you’ll need to be a little conservative with what little water you may have left. If that’s the case, it doesn’t mean you have to go without washing yourself and keeping clean! If you can’t afford to use any water for cleaning, these disposable cloths from ProHeal will do the trick perfectly. These No Rinse Bathing Wipes are great for removing sweat, odor and dirt when you can’t make it to a shower. They are hypoallergenic, paraben free, PH balanced and latex free! They also are infused with Vitamin E and Aloe Vera, so they feel good on the skin and don’t leave you irritated. These wipes are great for self-cleaning when out of water or even when you do have water but are just looking for a quick cleaning! If you’ve been active and feel the need to clean your arms and legs or just want to wash your face before bed, these towels are the perfect solution. Of course, the downsides to these towels are that they are disposable and only good for one use, so you’ll be going through a lot of them if you use them daily. Not only that, you’ll need a way to dispose of them after use, so you’ll either need to use some garbage bags or have a dumpster or public trash can nearby to get rid of them when you’re done. Overall though, these are great wipes to keep around in case of emergency or when you’re in need of a quick cleaning!

#2 – No-Rinse Shampoo

If you don’t have access to running water or your water reserves are running low, you can still keep your hair feeling clean! No-Rinse’s Waterless Shampoo is great for keeping your hair clean no matter what your situation is. You can use this shampoo when on the go when you can’t waste water or for when you just want to quickly clean your hair after a long day outside in the heat. The shampoo is very easy to use and makes keeping your hair feeling and smelling good so effortless. All you have to do is apply shampoo into your hair until it becomes wet, then massage it in before drying off with a clean towel. Then that’s it, your hair is clean! It’s a non-irritating shampoo that leaves your hair clean, odor-free and soft. It’s a great alternative to regular shampoos that require water. The brand is trusted and approved for use in many hospitals, so you can feel confident that the product will not damage your scalp or hair. You generally won’t see a lather when using this shampoo, but after you dry your hair with a towel after using you can always repeat the process if you feel your hair is still oily or not yet clean.

#3 – No Rinse Body Wash & Shampoo by Nurture

There are more options for keeping your hair and body clean as you travel without access to a traditional shower. Nurture’s No Rinse Body Wash and Shampoo is a quick and easy solution to cleaning yourself off when you have no shower or water access. Even if you do have access to water, this is still a great way to quickly clean yourself off if you just want to rinse off before bed or after waking up in the morning. This body wash can also be used on hair, so it’s very versatile. The usability of this wash is super easy, being even easier than showering with a regular bar of soap! All you have to do is apply to any areas you’re trying to clean and wipe clean until it dries. That’s all it takes to keep yourself feeling good and smelling clean! The great thing about this option is that you won’t have to worry about having to get rid of disposable wipes or trash. You simply need to wipe off with a clean towel that can be cleaned and reused. The price might be a bit higher than regular soaps, so this may not become your primary way of staying cleaned. It is a great secondary option when you have no other choices though!

#4 – Sierra Dawn Campsuds Outdoor Soap

An all-purpose cleaner can sometimes be a lifesaver when you’re out in the wilderness without access to a lot of clean water for self-cleaning. However, if you can spread a little bit of water for Sierra Dawn’s Campsuds Outdoor Soap then you can clean virtually any surface! This all in one cleaner is not just for your van or cooking tools, but it’s also useful for self-cleaning as well. It’s a biodegradable and environmentally safe soap, making it great for using outside with a bit of water without having to worry about soap run off. It’s lightweight and leaves a pleasant smelling lemony scent. While it’s a good all-natural option for cleaning, it doesn’t sacrifice any cleaning power and is very effective at cleaning all kinds of messes on a multitude of items. It can be used on clothing, pots and pans and even your skin and hair. It’s very easy to use, just needing a few drops into some water to make clean up and washing your face and skin easy.

#5 – KIPIDA Solar Shower Bag,5 gallons

While you may not have constant access to a traditional shower, there are many ways to still take a shower while on the road! One method is with a shower pack, specifically the KIPIDA Solar Shower Bag, which is an excellent way to take a heated shower even when out on the road with your van. The brilliant design of this bag allows you to store up to 5 gallons of water that can be used later on to act as a shower when hung up onto something above you. The bag is also heated by the power of the sun, meaning you can still take a hot shower with this bag if you leave it out in the sun first. The water inside can reach a temperature of about 113 degrees Fahrenheit. It still requires you to fill it with water prior to using it of course, so be sure you ration it well enough that you can make use of it in between refills. The bag also has a temperature indicator to let you know just how hot or cold the water inside the bag is. So, if you’re waiting for it to reach a certain temperature to your liking then you won’t have to play guessing games. Just take a look at whatever temperature is displayed and use it when you’re ready! It also comes in 4 different colors, so you have a choice of whatever style fits you best. On top of all that, when it’s not in use and empty. It’s easy to store away for whenever you need it next. A few added features include a mesh pocket to hold your soaps and shampoos as well as a well made handle that is strong enough to hold up the bag while in use as well as being slip resistant so you don’t drop it while carrying to and from your shower spot. The only real drawbacks to this product are that it can be difficult to ration the water long enough to reach another fill point, as well as finding a nice secluded area to actually put it to use. If you plan on using it outdoors somewhere in the woods, you may want to consider still wearing some kind of bathing suit or put up a makeshift shower curtain of some kind.

#6 – Texsport Instant Portable Outdoor Camping Shower

Outdoor showers are a great commodity when you can find a nice place to use one. However, you don’t have to be stuck without options if you’re in an area where you can’t get decent privacy. With an item like the Texsport Portable Outdoor Shower, you can actually make a private room for a shower instantly almost anywhere! This shower can unfold into a nice sized tent that will give you all the privacy that you need to take a shower even while in an area with no running water. Of course, this requires you to have a water supply stored up and ready for use bathing water, but if you do have that water to spare then this is an excellent option for showers on the go! The down sides to this particular shower tent, however, is that you’ll not only need to find the water supply for it, but also have enough room in your van for a place to store this away and when you do want to use it the setup can be slightly difficult. You’ll need to find a spot that can support the spikes that go into the ground and keep the tent in place. The frame is rust resistant though, and is somewhat flame retardant. It’s a bit more costly, but it is definitely worth it if you can find the space and water for it!

# 7 – Colgate Max Fresh Wisp Disposable Mini Toothbrush

Oral health is not something you can afford to neglect, even when you’re on the road and living your best van life! With the Colgate Max Fresh Wisp Mini Toothbrush, you can keep your mouth feeling clean and healthy! These small disposable toothbrushes come with a freshness bead that dissolves as you brush, acting as a toothpaste. What this means is that you don’t need to waste precious water or worry about buying toothpaste separately, these brushes come ready to use right out of the package! Of course, that means that you’ll need to find a way to dispose of them after each use, as they’re only good for one time before needing to be thrown away and replaced. However, the convenience and ease of use more than make up for that small downside. These come in packs of 24 or packs of 4 and are great for those times when you just don’t have the water to spare if you’ve lost your toothbrush somewhere along your travels. The ends of each brush also have a toothpick-like edge that allows you to dislodge anything left over after brushing. These brushes are great and convenient, but may not be worth being your primary dental care. A pack of 24 can be pretty costly if you intend on brushing twice a day. You’ll soon find that you’re spending a lot more on these than regular toothpaste. However, they make great tools in the event of an emergency or when you’re away from your van!
